Equico Eco take tonnes from Dunedin

Equico managing director Paul Beattie says in the statement: "Electronic waste is one of the fastest growing challenges facing the environment today. As a key facilitator of technology equipment to New Zealand schools, Equico is committed to helping our schools dispose of old and unused technology equipment in a safe, inexpensive and sustainable way."

Asked earlier this year what happens to the e-waste after it is collected, Beattie replied: ""Once the eWaste is collected, we use local partner Recytech to dispose of the waste. All waste is disposed of through local recyclers that are certified under the Basel Convention for the legal export of electronic waste.

"If the equipment is re-usable in some capacity it is cleansed of data and exported directly to partners overseas. "All waste is disposed of following best practices and we will not be putting anything in the landfill."
