Web Drive fast tracks cloud services plans

Web Drive is a New Zealand owned and operated internet services company, based on the North Shore of Auckland and employing 19 people. Established in 1997, it offers website hosting, server hosting and domain name management services. Web Drive has enjoyed significant growth in recent years, and today hosts over 15,000 websites and manages more than 60,000 domain names for 12,000 business customers. This growth has been recognized twice in the Deloitte Fast 50 company list - once in 2006 and again in 2008.

Web Drive's success has been built on early investment in new internet services markets. The emergence of cloud computing services was quickly recognized by the business as one such market. In order to realise the opportunity to deliver cloud-based server solutions to New Zealand businesses, Web Drive required a new enterprise quality data centre platform and, most critically, the capital to finance this new infrastructure investment.

In recent years, Web Drive had undertaken a variety of smaller infrastructure investment projects to keep ahead of changing business requirements, but nothing of the scale of the $300,000 cloud computing services project. The business had regularly drawn on Equico's variety of finance solutions in order to realize the business benefits of these upgrades and new technologies without the need to tie up the business' cash assets.

This meant Web Drive was able to enter the cloud services market well before many of its competitors.

Being able to recognize the potential market early and move quickly on the opportunity, with Equico's support, rapidly paid off. Web Drive experienced faster than expected sales and increased its customer base after launching the new services.
